Our members said they wanted better matches in their inbox and more exciting conversations - and we listened! Introducing the two ways you can now message a member: Being a Mutual Match, or sending a First Contact.
Mutual Matches
Wouldn’t it be great if your inbox was full of messages from members you’re interested in? The key to this is getting more Mutual Matches, and having these Mutual Matches talk.
How do you get mutual matches, you ask? Two ways - either visit profiles and like them directly, or use Meet Me and get swiping!
The important thing to know here is you can send unlimited messages to your Mutual Matches. So if you’re not swiping or liking profiles you’re interested in, what are you waiting for?
First Contacts
Find a profile you’re really into, but you haven’t Mutually Matched yet? We want you to have a chance to shoot your shot - and that’s why we’ve introduced First Contacts. Think of these as a "request to talk". These messages will land at the TOP of the member’s inbox, so there's a better chance they won't get lost in the shuffle, plus they'll know you choose to use your more coveted messages on them!
If you are a non-paying member, you get daily chances to send these First Contact messages every 24 hours. Tapping on the First Contact button on a profile of someone you haven't matched with will reveal how many First Contacts you have left that day. If you have reached your limit for the day, but you really want to send more First Contacts, you can also become a Premium Member.
Keep in mind that you can message your Mutual Matches for free - so as another option, if you’re out of First Contacts for the day, all you need to do is Like the profile and wait for them to Like you back.
Will this mean less messages in my inbox?
Maybe…but we hope that by having more messages from your Mutual Matches (and less generic “Sup” messages), that you’ll actually engage in more conversations and connections.
I’m still confused…how do I send a First Contact?
- Once you're looking at your potential match's profile, look for the magenta bubble with the star in it. Click that (or tap, if you're on the app) and take your best shot. Remember, this is your chance to break through the clutter, so our advice is to avoid something super generic like "Hey", "Sup?" or "How you doin'?"
- Once your message has been sent, it's now up to the other member to accept the message. If they reply, amazing...go wild, you love struck kids. If they opt not to reply, don't sweat it. It wasn't meant to be.
- If you're seeing the bubble with the star, but it's greyed out, that indicates one of a few things. It can mean that you might not be what that member is looking for and messaging is restricted, or you've already messaged them and they either haven't accepted your message or just haven't yet replied.
Just remember, like actual fishing, dating is a long game that requires patience. If we get a little overzealous, we might scare the good fish away and you might reel in a shopping cart or an old boot from the bottom of the lake.
