How can I tell if my account was compromised? – Plenty of Fish

*If you received a notification that we noticed suspicious activity on your account - we’ve already locked your account, so please change your password as soon as possible. If you suspect your account has been compromised, but you haven't received an email from us, please follow the steps below right away.

Your Plenty of Fish account may have been taken over if you see the following:

Your profile photos or essays have disappeared or been replaced.
Your password is no longer working.
The email address on your account has been changed.
You see purchases or subscription changes (Note: we never display your full billing information, even if you are logged into your account, and all billing information is stored in partial/encrypted forms.)
You see conversations that you did not participate in.

Step 1. Make sure the email address on your account is still yours. If your email address has been changed, please contact us.

Step 2. Change your password.

Go to the password reset page and enter your email address. This will automatically log you out, change your password, and send you a login link to choose a new password.
Use a unique password that has not been used anywhere else before
Practice good password security: use a mix of letters, numbers, capitalization, and symbols. The longer the password is, the better.

Option Two: Go to your Account Settings page and choose a new password.
On the web: https://www.pof.com/settings
On the apps: Tap on your profile, then on Account Settings.

Step 3. Add your phone number to your account for Two-Factor Authentication.

If the email address on your account has been changed, and you can't change it back.
If you need a refund for purchases made under your account.
If you can't log into your account again.

General Tips: Accounts being compromised can generally happen because people have accessed your login information. There can be a few reasons for that:

1. Did someone send you a link, and you clicked on it? Did you have to re-enter your login and password?

You will never need to click on a link from another user or log in elsewhere to access additional features on Plenty of Fish. These fake links are used to steal your credentials.

2. Are you using a password that is easy to guess?

Practice good password security: use a mix of letters, numbers, capitalization, and symbols. The longer the password is, the better.

3. Do you use the same password on several other sites?

If you use the same password on several sites or services, then your accounts on all of them have the potential to be compromised, if one of those sites has had a security breach. We can assure you that Plenty of Fish is secure. All passwords on Plenty of Fish are encrypted and even our employees can't see what they are.
